Children on the road! Examples of accidents involving children from investigative practice
During summer holidays, children have more free time, and they often find themselves on the streets, riding bikes, rollerblading, actively relaxing, going on car trips with their parents. Given that, there is an increasing number of daily reports on road accidents involving children. Since the beginning of this year, 119 children have been injured and 6 died in road accidents in Belarus.
In analyzing the data of incidents, the investigation concludes that most often young road users get into trouble by their own negligence.
As an example, we can cite an accident that happened in the evening on May 23 in Minsk. According to the investigation, a 38-year-old resident of the capital, driving a Hyundai car, ran over a 7-year-old boy who was crossing the road on a scooter in the yard.
This resulted in the child's receiving numerous injuries, including limbs fractures. At present, the boy is in the hospital, his life is not in danger.
A criminal case has been initiated against the driver under Part 2 of Article 317 (traffic offense that caused severe bodily harm by negligence) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Currently, the investigator is performing the necessary investigative actions to obtain a clear picture of the event.
Every driver, getting behind the wheel, should remember that on the road he is responsible both for his life and the life and health of people around!
Yet, there are cases when teenagers, flaunting in front of their peers, get under the car wheels. Not so long ago, social networks was actively discussing the dangerous game "Run or Die". The essence of the “fun” is to cross the road as close as possible in front of the moving car. The one who stays alive, wins.
Unfortunately, the game has found its response among Belarusian teenagers. In Zhlobin, a 15-year-old boy ran out onto the road in front of a car and was hit. Luckily, the young man escaped with fright and was not hurt.
The Investigative Committee strongly recommends that parents talk to their children, tell them about the danger of their actions and possible consequences. Only together we can protect children from rash actions.
Most often, children's injuries on the road are caused by the peculiarities of their psychophysical development. Due to their lack of experience, they may incorrectly assess the situation, and their need for movement and knowledge of the world almost always prevails over caution.
Dear parents, do not forget that the most effective prevention of traffic accidents involving children, apart from explaining simple traffic rules to them and correct behavior on the street, is an example of adults. Remember that child learns the laws of safe behavior from you. Try to do everything possible to protect the child from accidents on the road!
