15.09.2022
The Gomel City Department of the Investigative Committee has disclosed details of a criminal case against a 26-year-old resident of Gomel on the rehabilitation of Nazism.

According to the investigation, last spring, the young man was hiding in Moscow from Belarusian law enforcers. The defendant evaded serving a sentence in the form of a three-month arrest imposed by the court of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Gomel for non-compliance with preventive supervision requirements. On May 9th, when residents of the former Soviet republics celebrated Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, this Belarusian man, together with an unidentified person, created a Telegram channel to popularize Nazism. While on the territory of Russia, and later in Belarus, he posted publications depicting Nazi symbols, photos and videos of Adolf Hitler's speeches, anti-Semitic and racist statements.

By the decision of the court of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Gomel, the said information products were recognized as extremist materials.

In October, the person involved was detained in Belarus and convicted of evading preventive supervision and evading serving a sentence in the form of arrest. By the way, in previous, he was prosecuted for especially malicious hooliganism.

The Gomel City Department of the Investigative Committee has collected evidence of a young man committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 361-1 (creation of an extremist group, as well as a group whose activities are aimed at the rehabilitation of Nazism, managing such group) and part 1 of Article 130 (deliberate actions aimed at inciting racial, national, religious or other social enmity or discord on the basis of racial, national, religious, linguistic or other social affiliation, as well as deliberate actions to rehabilitate Nazism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
