The Administration of the Investigative Committee in and for the Brest Region determined the facts of the murder committed 19 years ago.

As previously reported, the body of a local resident, year of birth: 1985, with a knife wound to the neck was found in the area of Zavodskaya St. in Baranovichy on June 28, 1999.

During the inspection of the crime scene, near the body, experts found and collected biological material that could belong to the criminal. However, at that time, due to the lack of the necessary material and technical equipment, it was not possible to identify the criminal’s DNA.

On the same day a criminal case was initiated under the Article “murder”. The suspect was not identified. Since 1999, the work on the criminal case has never been terminated both by the investigative divisions and the criminal police divisions.

In February of the current year, the law enforcement officers sent biological samples of persons involved in robberies for checking with respect to unsolved crimes of past years.

Specialists of the Department of Forensic Biological and Forensic Genetic Examinations of the Brest Region Directorate of the State Forensic Examination Committee using modern equipment determined that the biological material of one of the men suspected of another crime coincided with the biological material found in 1999.

The investigation revealed that the accused, who at that time was 20 years old, after being rejected by a 14-year-old girl with regard to having sexual intercourse with him, raped her, and then stabbed her in the neck. The schoolgirl died at the scene from the resulting injuries.

Investigators defined the man’s actions under Part 2 of Article 166 (rape), Paragraph 7 of Part 2 of Article 139 (murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. A preventive measure in the form of detention was applied to him. After committing the abovementioned crime, the man has been repeatedly prosecuted.

The criminal case was transferred to the prosecutor for referral to the court.
