On the night of July 2nd, a resident of one of the Verkhnedvinsk District’s border villages found a beaten foreign woman and called an ambulance. She was taken to the hospital immediately.

The victim was a 24-year-old Ethiopian citizen. With the help of an interpreter, the victim told the investigator that when she was in Latvia, border guards found her, broke her cell phone, beat her and forced her into Belarusian territory.

A few days after this incident, the victim died in a healthcare facility. To determine the exact cause of death, investigators have ordered a forensic medical examination.

The Verkhnedvinsk District Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting an inspection.
