The Belarusian Investigative Committee Discussed Collaboration with the US FBI on Fighting International Crime
On her first visit to the Republic of Belarus, Laura Krieghbaum, the Legal Attaché representing the Federal Investigation Bureau in the US Embassy to Ukraine, attended a task meeting of American and Belarusian investigators at the Central Administrative Office of the Belarusian Investigative Committee.
Mrs. Krieghbaum and her assistant Daniel Stoddard have only recently entered upon their duties in Kiev, which, among others, include supervision of interaction with the Republic of Belarus at the level of the US FBI.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged opinions on the legal systems in the two countries, discussed the criminal procedure specifics in Belarus and the USA, and touched on some aspects of international legal assistance in criminal cases.
The attendees concluded that success in fighting crime, including that of organized and transnational nature, depends much on efficient collaboration between the Belarusian and the American law enforcement officers.
The parties agreed to continue exchanging information of mutual interest and the best investigation practices, while assisting in professional training of investigators.
The visit of the FBI representatives to the Republic of Belarus has contributed to strengthening meaningful cooperation of the law enforcement authorities in the two countries to fight crime.
