The Investigative Committee held a working meeting with OSCE representatives
The representatives of the Central office of the Investigative Committee met with the office co-workers of the special representative and coordinator for combating human trafficking of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Valiant Richey and Radu Сuсos.
It is noteworthy that the meeting was held on July 30, the world day against human trafficking.
At the meeting, V. Richey and R. Сuсos were introduced to the history of formation, functions and powers of the Investigative Committee in the course of pre-trial criminal proceedings, including cases of human trafficking.
The parties noted with satisfaction that the Republic of Belarus is a party to all anti-trafficking instruments within the framework of the United Nations, as well as to the Convention of the Council of Europe on combating human trafficking dated 2005, which, where necessary, are the basis for mutual legal assistance in criminal cases of this category.
The representatives of the Investigative Committee expressed interest in developing the regulatory framework for cooperation in criminal law with the states of the European continent through the conclusion of full-fledged bilateral treaties on legal assistance in criminal matters or the accession of the Republic of Belarus to the Conventions of the Council of Europe on extradition dated 1957 and on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters dated 1959.
During the meeting promising areas of cooperation in the combating human trafficking and related crimes, the possibility of further participation of the Investigative Committee in various events held under the auspices of the OSCE were also discussed.
It was agreed to continue to maintain working contacts on issues of mutual interest.
