The Main Investigation Department has completed the criminal investigation of seizure for the purpose of hijacking the aircraft of "Belavia" airlines
As it was previously reported, the incident occurred on June 10, 2014. The aircraft of "Belavia" airlines was performing a flight from Kutaisi to Minsk. One of the passengers, being intoxicated and threatening violence, demanded that the crew of the aircraft should carry out the flight to one of the European countries in violation of the flight plan. He expressed his intentions in a note, which was passed to the captain of the crew. There were 4 crew members and 32 passengers on board at that time, including one child.
The man, who passed the note, was detained at the National Airport by the officers of the Committee for State Security.
The detainee turned out to be a Georgian citizen, born in 1973.
A complex of forensic examinations, including a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric and forensic-medical examination, under which results the detainee was found criminally sane and therefore could be aware of the actual nature and social danger of his actions and control them.
The Georgian citizen is charged under Part 2 Art. 311 (Seizure for the purpose of hijacking the aircraft) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
The preventive measure (detention), previously applied to the accused, remained unchanged.
The criminal case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office to be referred to court.
