Investigators established circumstances of death of a 6-year-old girl in Gomel (+ VIDEO)

Investigative Department of the Administration of Investigative Committee for Gomel region completed the investigation of a criminal case on a road traffic accident on Sovetskaya Street in the city of Gomel, as a result of which a 6-year-old girl died.

The investigation established that on May 4, at about 5:30 pm, the driver of Citroen C5 car was moving along Sovetskaya Street from the side of Kommunarov Street in the direction of the intersection with Krestyanskaya Street at a speed of at least 70 km/h, with the maximum permitted on this section – 50 km/h. Before the car left the intersection, first yellow and then red traffic light lit up for the driver. Despite this, he continued the movement, crossed the stop line and entered the intersection. At that time, the driver of Nissan Qashqai car drove out from the side of Krestyanskaya Street on the green traffic light that was burning for him. There was a collision of cars, after which Citroen in a state of skid drove onto the sidewalk and hit two six-year-old children. The girl died from the injuries received at the scene. The boy was thrown aside from the blow. He was diagnosed with abrasions.

For vehicles moving along Sovetskaya Street, the red traffic light turns on. On the roadway from Kommunarov Street in the direction of the intersection with Krestyanskaya Street in the left lane, Citroen C5 car is moving.


At the set of traffic lights for vehicles moving along Krestyanskaya Street, and at set of traffic lights for pedestrians intending to cross Sovetskaya Street, the green traffic light is lit.

On the same evening, a criminal case was initiated against the driver of Citroen under Part 2 Article 317 (violation of traffic rules, resulting in death of a person by negligence) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Throughout the investigation, he was in custody. The investigation was carried out as soon as possible. The investigator seized and examined 11 video recordings from surveillance cameras located on Sovetskaya Street. To establish the circumstances and mechanism of the accident, experts of the Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee for Gomel region were instructed to carry out forensic medical and auto-technical examinations. Technical malfunctions of Citroen, which could have caused an accident, have not been identified.

The accused fully admitted guilt. The investigation is completed. According to the prosecutor's office for Gomel region, the criminal case was referred to the court.

Investigative Department of the Administration of Investigative Committee for Gomel region made a submission to the specialized installation and operation enterprise of Gomel Regional Executive Committee on consideration of the issue of taking additional organizational and practical measures to ensure road safety.
