They were preparing to seize the buildings of executive committees and administrations in Gomel: investigation is completed
The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigation Committee completed the investigation of the criminal case against four confidants of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. These circumstances became known during the investigation of the criminal case against Sergei Tikhanovsky and were separated into a separate proceeding.
According to the investigation, the employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption carried out operational-search measures aimed at identifying and documenting the illegal activities of a number of persons involved in organizing mass riots during the presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus last year. Law enforcement officers received information that people from Svetlana Tikhanovskaya's inner circle are preparing for riots and seizing of government buildings in Gomel. In order to implement the plan, the latter were looking for supporters among former military personnel, employees of the internal affairs bodies and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. In order to study and plan their actions in detail, the accused organized a meeting on August 5, which was attended by Tikhanovskaya herself.
The accused, with participation of Tikhanovskaya, discussed a plan for organizing mass riots in Gomel, as well as seizing the buildings of administrations and executive committees, appointing their own persons instead of heads and chairmen. Supporting the plan, she agreed to provide funds for the purchase of stun guns, gas cans, walkie-talkies, megaphones, microphones, and other items and weapons intended to commit a crime.
The criminal activities of the accused were stopped by the police officers, who detained the main figurants in the period from 6 to 8 August last year.
The investigators interrogated the accused, and added a video recording of the meeting and the results of expert research to the materials of the criminal case. According to the conclusion of the phonoscopic examination, the votes on the video belong to the accused, the ex-candidate and her confidants.
According to the results of the investigation, they were charged under part 1 of article 13, part 2 of article 293 (preparation for riots) and part 1 of article 13, part 1 of article 292 (preparation for the seizure of buildings and structures) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. A preventive measure in the form of detention was applied to all of them. Tikhanovskaya is currently on the wanted list. The relevant documents for her extradition were submitted to the General Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation of the criminal case has been completed. The materials were handed over to the prosecutor to be sent to court.
